World Vision Australia CEO Claire Rogers responds to federal election result

The CEO of Australia’s largest NGO, World Vision, has this morning written to Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, to congratulate him on the Federal Coalition’s victory at the 2019 federal election.

Ms Rogers noted that:

“As CEO of Australia’s largest international NGO, I look forward to continuing to work with your leadership team and the Australian Government as we work towards eliminating poverty and its causes and help create a brighter future for children and their families across the world.

“Australian aid makes an essential contribution to the alleviation of poverty and suffering in our region and around the world, achieving significant impacts, both overseas and for Australia.

“Among its many positive outcomes, Australian aid empowers people living in poverty, helps people live longer, healthier lives, provides lifesaving assistance during crises and improves regional security.

“As evidence of its impact, in the last 25 years, the number of people in developing countries living on less than $1.25 a day has dropped from 47 per cent in 1990 to 14 per cent in 2015.

“For six decades World Vision has been engaging with the Australian Government to work towards eliminating poverty and its causes.

“I look forward to continuing this relationship and offer my assistance and availability to engage in dialogue with you and your team on matters of policy and practice.”
