Police have charged a man following a wounding incident at Brinsmead overnight.
Around 9.20pm, police were called to an address on Meston Crescent following reports that a woman had been seriously injured.
Police arrived and located a 57-year-old woman with a number of wounds.
She was transported to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition.
A 52-year-old Brinsmead man who is known to the woman has been charged with one count of acts intended to maim – domestic violence offence.
Bail has been refused and he is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday, 22 June.
