Wrapping up big year on North East Link

Vic Department of Transport

It’s been a massive year on North East Link – with new designs released and the major contract awarded for the state’s longest road tunnels.

We’ve continued to progress our early works program, moving major gas, power and sewer lines out of the way of North East Link. We’ve also delivered major sports upgrades at Ford and Binnak Parks, Veneto Club and Greensborough College to keep local sports clubs thriving as construction progresses.

Work to build Melbourne’s first dedicated busway began, with construction underway to build a brand new park and ride in Bulleen.

Our early tree planting program well and truly sprouted this year, with more than 1500 trees planted so far in local parks and streets, sports fields and in Yarra River Parklands.

North East Link will fix the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network, slash travel times and free up local roads for local trips.

This year, the project reached a number of significant milestones. Check out the video below to find out more and see our timeline in our project update for what is in store in 2022 and beyond.
