YAG 2020 applications – Campaspe Shire Council

Campaspe Shire Council is actively recruiting young people aged 12 – 25 across the community to join the 2020 Youth Advisory Group (YAG).

Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said the YAG is a vibrant group that delivers a youth perspective to council on a number of important projects and topics impacting the community.

“Next year is shaping up to be another busy year at council and becoming a member of the YAG is a great way for young people in our shire to have a voice in local government decision making,” Cr Weston said.

The YAG is set up to advise council on items relevant to youth in Campaspe. Members of the group are given the opportunity to work closely with staff and councillors to add their input into projects and developments over a 12 month period.

Current member of the YAG, Julie Habegger said the experience and knowledge gained as part of the group has been valuable in developing leadership and teamwork skills.

“This year the YAG has engaged in providing input for council activities such as the Access & Inclusion Strategy, Food and Garden Organics Project, Keep in Touch (KIT) Van and presented to the 2019 Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations,” Miss Habegger said.

“It’s great for young people in our shire to be given this opportunity to better understand local government and represent our peers in discussing topics that matter to us,” Miss Habegger added.

YAG members will have the opportunity to:

  • provide input on council projects and interact with councillors
  • undertake training to develop professional skills
  • attend youth events and workshops
  • shine a light on issues facing young people in Campaspe.

“It’s a great opportunity for young people to learn how to be part of a committee, develop an understanding of governance and local government and make some great friends along the way,” Cr Weston said.
