Yarra provides $1 million in grants for local community

Yarra City Council has awarded more than $1 million in community grants to more than 150 applicants through the latest round of its Annual Grants for 2022.

Yarra’s community grants are awarded to not-for-profit organisations and community members throughout the City of Yarra to enhance community participation and to address social issues.

The funding supports initiatives in the arts, festivals and events, climate action, community housing, family support, youth services, sport and recreation and social enterprise.

Yarra Mayor, Cr Sophie Wade, said Council was proud to be partnering with so many different groups and individuals committed to enhancing Yarra’s community connectedness.

“This funding boost will help support projects that celebrate Yarra’s diversity, bring people together and address pressing social issues,” Cr Wade said.

“The projects we’ve funded through our Annual Grants Program provide vital opportunities for our community to reconnect as we re-emerge from the pandemic,” she said.

“Congratulations to all projects recognised in this year’s Annual Grants Program.”

Under Yarra’s Annual Grants Program, Council is providing more than $1 million to 159 applicants across 12 funding streams.

Successful projects funded through this year’s Annual Grants Program 2022 include:

• Jigsaw Group (Aus) Limited who provide traineeships and award wage employment for people living with a disability in Abbotsford

• Yarra Riverkeeping Association who maintain and protect the Yarra River

• North Fitzroy Community Gardens Group’s Rushall Garden, who provide fresh, free food for the local community.
