Works are ramping up on Yarram Gap Road between Heard Road and Sandhills Road to reconstruct and widen a 740-metre-long section of the road.
Ararat Rural City Council Chief Executive Dr Tim Harrison commented on the importance of the safety upgrade on Yarram Gap Road, being one of the region’s main tourism getaway routes to the Grampians.
“Yarram Gap Road in Willaura is a popular route for the farming community and tourists, being a key getaway to the Grampians National Park,” Dr Harrison said.
“The narrowed-sealed section of the road is failing with several large potholes and rough surfaces, making it unsafe for motorists to travel at the designated speed.
“Millers Civil Contractors Pty Ltd along with Council crews will work to reconstruct and widen the road, including replacing aging culverts and drainage improvements.
“This week, crews have been preparing the road subbase for stabilisation works to create a much more durable road surface, with works to completely reconstruct this section of the road scheduled to continue through to mid-November.
“While there may be some disruption while these works are underway, the Yarram Gap Road upgrade is an important local road with the upgrades improving drivability for visitors and safer for heavy vehicle freight movements.”
The $482,000 upgrade is one of the many projects being delivered as part of Ararat Rural City Council’s Capital Works Program. Yarram Gap Road between Heard Road and Sandhills road is closed until mid-November 2021, weather permitting.
