Public consultation is now open on a new Tasmanian road safety strategy to help reduce road trauma across the state.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said the new Strategy will take a fresh approach to road safety across Tasmania, with local feedback ensuring it is supported by Tasmanians.
“The Strategy will consider a broader range of strategic road safety initiatives that will make a difference for all road users,” Minister Vincent said.
“We want this Strategy to make a tangible difference. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, which is why we want community involvement and feedback.
“The consultation process is not only about identifying issues or solutions, but also about building a shared commitment to action.
“By opening public consultation for the Strategy, we can hear from people across the state and help create shared commitment to road safety with Tasmanians.”
Three regional stakeholder workshops were held in June, to hear from road safety stakeholders about Tasmania’s road safety future.
A discussion paper has now been completed using key insights from the regional workshops and independent best-practice advice on strategic road safety initiatives.
The new strategy will draw on lessons learned from the current Towards Zero Tasmanian Road Safety Strategy 2017-2026, consider global and national innovations in best-practice, and will respond to local needs.
“Public feedback is important to ensure the Strategy meets community expectations, reduce deaths and serious injury on our roads, and bring Tasmanians together to reduce road trauma,” Minister Vincent said.
“Improving road safety is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future and this public feedback helps Tasmania unite to deliver these important improvements.”
