Young Tasmanians showcase extraordinary talents

Roger Jaensch,Minister for Education, Children and Youth

Youth Week Tasmania shines a spotlight on the unique contribution young people aged 12-25 are making in our community.

This year’s theme is ‘Youth: Next Gen’ and was chosen to recognise the next generation of young leaders, changemakers, influencers and visionaries who are shaping our State.

During this week, young Tasmanians will showcase their extraordinary talents and skills, giving us a preview of what the future of our State looks like.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government continues to invest in our children and young people, and in their future.

Wherever they live and whatever their circumstances, we want young people to have the opportunity to reach their full potential while leading happy and fulfilling lives.

Our $100 million Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy delivers on that commitment and provides the framework and an action plan that will support young people over the next four years.

The strategy has a special focus on encouraging young people to have their say on issues impacting their lives and participate actively in their communities.

Youth Week is another opportunity for young Tasmanians to participate and have their contributions recognised and valued

The Government is supporting the celebrations through the $20,000 Youth Week Grants Program with fantastic events happening around the State. These include the Riverbend Rock Challenge in Launceston, Youth Create Skate on the Central Coast, Youth Arts Showcase in Kingborough, ‘Scamjam’ in St Helens and a range of other exciting programs designed by young people for young people.

I would like to thank Youth Network of Tasmania and all the young people involved in the promotion and preparations for this important week.
