Youth Focus celebrates 25 years of supporting WA’s young people

  • Free frontline services and programs help young people with mental health issues
  • Suicide biggest killer of those aged 15-24
  • Youth Focus will celebrate 25 years of supporting young Western Australians with mental health issues at a special event at Crown Towers tomorrow (May 2).

Established in 1994, Youth Focus provides mental health services and programs for people aged 12-25 and helps them to realise their potential and lead full and healthy lives.

The organisation delivers frontline services and education programs to reduce symptoms associated with suicide, depression, anxiety and self-harm and also helps build long-term mental wellbeing for young people.

Through the Youth Support Services program, the Department of Communities helps Youth Focus to deliver the Youth & Family Support & Counselling Program.

This program provides free, frontline counselling services, as well as community outreach, designed to build awareness in schools and communities across WA about youth mental health issues and suicide prevention.

As stated by Mental Health Minister Roger Cook:

“Youth Focus has helped thousands of young people by delivering frontline services and education programs aimed at reducing symptoms associated with suicide, depression, anxiety and self-harm.

“The programs delivered by Youth Focus help build long-term mental wellbeing and empower young people to become strong, resilient adults.”

As stated by Youth Minister Peter Tinley:

“Tragically, suicide is the biggest killer of our young people aged 15-24.

“Youth Focus has accomplished outstanding results in its 25 years of operation and has made a profound difference in the lives of many young Western Australians.

“I am certain that the majority of the young people who have engaged with Youth Focus will be ever grateful for the support and empathy of the organisation’s counsellors.”
