Kempsey’s Laneway Festival returned with a bang on Saturday, with thousands of people coming together to celebrate creativity, community and culture, all led by young people.
Council organisers are giving a big shout out to the more than 110 young people who were directly involved in making the day a success, contributing across music, performance, art, food and more.
Beyond the colour, excitement and fun, the Laneway Festival is about something deeper: building youth capacity in our community. It’s a platform for young people to showcase their talent, grow their confidence and even explore future career pathways or personal callings.
By creating space for youth-led creativity, Council is investing in the next generation, supporting them to thrive, lead and shape the future of the Macleay.
Here’s just a snapshot of the youth-powered action:
- 19 circus performers, roving entertainers & fire twirlers wowed the crowd
- 16 musicians and singers took the stage, including an emcee
- 14 buskers with the Silver Band
- 24 young stallholders sold handmade goods at the market
- 8 artists showcased their work in an outdoor exhibition
- 14 young women trained in food handling and served up nachos and brownies
- 9 street food cook-off competitors brought flavour and flair
- 8 karate demonstrators showed off their moves
- 1 photo booth operator captured the fun
The festival was packed with energy, colour and talent, a true celebration of what young people can do when given the space to shine.
