National Youth Week is the largest annual celebration of young people across the State and there are so many free events to choose from on the MidCoast.
Kicking off on 20 April, this year’s theme is ‘Connect, Participate, Celebrate.’
MidCoast Council, with the support of the NSW Government, is working with community partners to deliver a jam-packed program of great events.
“These events are especially for young people aged 12 – 24,” said MidCoast Council Manager Library and Community Services, Alex Mills.
“I really encourage young people and their families to take advantage of the great, free events on offer. You can learn something new, have fun, and make new friends.”
Free events include:
20 April, 2pm – 4pm: Photo Exhibition Opening at Manning Regional Art Gallery, Taree.
21 April, 10am – 2pm: Tea Gardens Pool Family Fun Day with barbecue, games, prizes and a DJ.
22 April, 10am – 2pm: Taree Library, board games day with free pizza.
22 April, 1pm – 3pm: Gloucester School of Arts meeting room above Gloucester Art Gallery, resin pouring workshop.
24 April, 10am – 12pm: Wingham, Circus workshop with Circartus.
27 April, 9:30am – 2:30pm: Manning Entertainment Centre, Taree, Youth Arts Festival, with stalls and free food and performances.
29 April, 10am – 12pm: Forster Tuncurry Scout Hall, painting workshop.
There are also free events organised by the young people in Council’s Arts, Culture and Environment team, including
19 April, 10am – 1pm: song writing at Taree Universities campus.
22 April, 9:30am – 11:30am: pencil case painting at the Gloucester Senior Citizens Hall.

“Nominations for the MidCoast Youth Awards also open during Youth Week on 20 April,” said Mr Mills.
“If you know a young person who is doing awesome things in the community, nominate them for a MidCoast Youth Award.”
“Receiving a MidCoast Youth Award can lead on to future opportunities and is a great way to recognise individual effort.”
Categories include leadership, community service, wellbeing and resilience, sports, arts, and entrepreneur. Nominations close Sunday 25 June.
In the lead up to Youth Week, the Youth Photography exhibition is happening again, with submissions closing 16 April. The photos will be exhibited at the Manning Art Gallery from 20 April to 13 May.
