Zoo comes to town for Shields Street family fun

Jodie Creek from Zoo to You with Cairns Museum volunteers Phil Page (centre) and Paul Gwydir, with some of the reptiles that will feature at this weekend's Sunday on Shields program.

An army of reptiles is set to take up residence in the Cairns city on Sunday, prompting a partial closure of Shields Street.

Don’t miss the chance to get close and personal with some of our scaly and furry native animals when The Zoo joins the excitement of Sunday on Shields this weekend.

Zoo to You will bring to town their collection of native wildlife, including lizards, snakes, crocodiles, frogs, turtles, sugar gliders and a rufous bettong.

Come and smile at a baby crocodile, have an interactive and up close wildlife experience, and learn from a qualified wildlife biologist.

The fifth in an 11-week program, Shields Street will come to life from 11am to 8pm with a full program of entertainment that also includes pop-up Storytime with Cairns Libraries, free face painters and glitter art, live music from atop Miss Nemo the Kombi, and Zumba in the City.

Plus, Cairns Museum will be open this Sunday from 10am to 2pm (fees do apply).

Shields Street, between Lake and Abbott streets, will be closed to traffic from 10am to 5pm on Sunday 8 September.

Those heading into the CBD are reminded there is free parking is available on-street and at the Lake Street multi-storey carpark on Sundays.
