$170,000 diamond fraud arrest in Sydney City PAC

A man is due to appear in court today charged over a $170,000 diamond fraud allegedly committed more than 16 years ago.

Officers from the Sydney City Fraud Unit initiated an investigation in 2002 into multiple complaints about diamonds – worth an estimated $170,000 – being supplied to a man within the trade who allegedly failed to return, or pay for, the items.

Investigators were unable to locate the man after he allegedly fled overseas, and 21 warrants were issued for his arrest on fraud offences.

Acting on new information, officers from Sydney City Police Area Command last night (Thursday 17 October 2019), arrested a 52-year-old man at Wentworth Point.

He was taken to Auburn Police Station and charged with the 21 outstanding warrants.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Friday 18 October 2019).
