$2 million investment transforming WA timber towns

  • Recipients of the first round of the Community Small Grants Fund (CSGF) have been announced
  • 27 small businesses and community groups in WA’s South West will share in $2 million of funding
  • The investment will support local projects across a range of industries including tourism, entertainment, sports, agriculture and health

The Cook Government is helping to transform Western Australia’s timber towns into thriving places to live and visit through the Community Small Grants Fund (CSGF).

Twenty-seven recipients have been announced in the first round and will share in $2 million dollars of funding.

The investment will support local projects across a range of industries such as tourism, hospitality, sports, arts, entertainment, youth services, health, agriculture, and charitable services.

This includes a new luxury glamping experience in Nannup, an adventure high ropes course in Pemberton and an upgrade to the Manjimup Speedway Club.

The CSGF forms part of the $80 million Native Forestry Transition Plan and is another way the WA Government is continuing to support the region as native logging comes to an end.

The second round of the Community Small Grants Fund will open early next year.

Eligible businesses and organisations can apply for grants of up to $100,000 for projects which stimulate the economy and increase the region’s liveability.

As stated by Forestry Minister Jackie Jarvis:

“This investment by the Cook Government will help build on the South West’s reputation as a premier tourist destination as well as enhance liveability.

“Congratulations to all the small businesses and community groups who successfully applied and received a grant.”

As stated by Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie:

“This funding will help support so many important projects in the South West, including the expansion of an edible snail growing business in Manjimup, the expansion of a medical centre in Nannup, and the installation of public facilities at an outdoor community space in Greenbushes.

“Applications for the second round will open later in the year and I encourage anyone interested in applying to start considering their submission.”
