2019 Summer in Parks program underway

The City of Greater Bendigo’s annual Summer in the Parks program starts this week with the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Rosalind Park tomorrow.

The City, Fosterville Gold Mine and local community groups and organisations present the 2019/2020 Summer in the Parks program featuring more than 100 free or low-cost events during December, January and February across Greater Bendigo.

The lighting of the Christmas tree takes places at approximately 8.45pm on Friday November 29 in Rosalind Park Piazza.

Local musician and singer Sherri Parry will perform Christmas songs and there will be children’s activities starting from 6.30pm, including circus activities, face painting and roving characters.

Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said the lighting of the Christmas Tree marked the countdown to Christmas and the start of the Summer in the Parks program.

“Summer in the Parks has a wide range of free events and activities so it’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and make the most of our beautiful city and region,” Cr O’Rourke said.

As part of the Summer in the Parks program, throughout December there will be New Year’s Eve fireworks, Christmas carols and some ‘come and try’ sports activities.

Community Christmas carols will also be taking place at various locations.

  • Maiden Gully Christmas Carols on December 1
  • Epsom Christmas Carols on December 7
  • Axedale Christmas Carols on December 8
  • Eaglehawk UFS Dispensary Christmas Carols on December 8
  • Strathfieldsaye Christmas Carols on December 11
