Youth Minister Dave Kelly today opened nominations for the 2021 Youth Awards that will recognise outstanding Western Australians aged 10 to 25 years.
The awards celebrate the achievements and talents of WA’s youth, and their contributions to the community, as well as those of individuals and organisations that work with and support the State’s young people.
Nominations are open for the following categories:
- The Minister for Youth’s Most Outstanding Youth Worker Award;
- The Aboriginal Health Council of WA’s Positive Achievement Award;
- The Mission Australia Young Changemaker Award;
- The Propel Youth Arts WA Creative Contribution Award;
- The YMCA Large Organisation Achievement Award;
- The Life Without Barriers Small Organisation Achievement Award;
- The ECU Community Leadership Award;
- The Commissioner for Children and Young People Participate Award;
- The Youth Futures Innovation for a Sustainable Future Award; and
- The Charmaine Dragun Memorial Award (which recognises outstanding media coverage of young people or youth issues).
A WA Young Person of the Year award will be selected from those categories which honour individuals.
Category winners receive a $1,000 prize, with the WA Young Person of the Year to receive a $10,000 travel bursary to participate in youth-related events and activities across WA, in addition to a personal travel prize valued at $3,000.
Nominations close on Friday March 5, 2021, with winners to be announced at the 22nd WA Youth Awards on Friday April 9 at WA’s new museum, Boola Bardip.
The awards are a partnership between the Department of Communities and the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia and are supported by Lotterywest.
