Recently released tourism statistics from Tourism Research Australia for the Bendigo-Loddon region, which includes Central Goldfields Shire, show that we are bouncing back fast post-pandemic.

The report states that for the year ending September 2022, expenditure in the region was $376 million.

Tourism is important for our local community and is critical to our retail and hospitality businesses.

Tourism is a key priority for Council and we have so many exciting projects well underway which will help put our Shire on the map as a prime tourist destination.

The Skate and Scooter Park will be officially opened this Sunday with a BBQ, skate clinics, competitions, demonstrations and pop-ups planned from 10am to 4pm at the Adventure Playground, Lake Road.

The redeveloped Central Goldfields Art Gallery will open on March 4 and works on the Maryborough Railway Station Activation project are well underway.

A feasibility study for the Castlemaine-Maryborough Rail Trail, which passes through Carisbrook, is also in the pipeline.

These projects, plus others, will draw visitors from across the state to explore the wonderful townships of the Central Goldfields, including Carisbrook.

More and more these days people are wanting to explore what’s in their own backyard and with so many exciting things happening in our Shire I know people will travel far and wide to discover the Central Goldfields.
