The Minns Labor Government’s record investment in housing is delivering results for Western Sydney, with more than 200 new social homes built in Blacktown and Penrith.
The milestone is the latest sign of growing momentum under the historic $6.6 billion Building Homes for NSW program which is delivering 8,400 new public housing units, 21,000 affordable and market homes, and upgrades to 30,000 existing social housing properties across the state.
Housing is the number one issue for communities and building more new homes in Western Sydney remains a key focus, with the Government working to deliver more social housing to help more people access safe, secure and affordable homes.
A total of 226 new social homes have been delivered across the Blacktown and Penrith local government areas since April 2023.
That includes a project in North St Marys where 22 new homes for seniors have replaced 5 ageing cottages and another in Blacktown where Homes NSW tripled the number of homes on an ageing site.
More homes are on the way with 63 additional new homes scheduled for completion in the 2026/27 financial year.

Under the Minns Labor Government, social housing supply in NSW is growing again and more people in Western Sydney have access to safe, secure homes.

“Reaching 226 new social homes is a significant achievement, but we’re not stopping there. Another 63 homes are already on the way and we’re pushing ahead toward the next milestone.
“We’re confronting the housing and homelessness crisis head-on by building more homes and ensuring more people have access to secure and affordable housing. What we’re achieving here in Western Sydney is a prime example of that commitment, and it’s part of a much bigger picture.”
