$24,000 cash, drugs seized after speeding driver stopped near Lake George

A man has been charged and $24,000 cash and drugs seized when a speeding car was stopped on the Federal Highway near Canberra.

Officers attached to Goulburn Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement duties shortly before midnight last Friday (3 July 2026), on the Federal Highway, between Wollogorang and Lake George, when they detected a car allegedly travelling at 165km/h in a 110km/h-signposted zone.

The driver stopped when directed by police at Lake George.

Officers subjected the 24-year-old male driver to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive result. A secondary result allegedly returned a reading for cocaine.

When the vehicle was searched police will allege they located 125g of ketamine, 141.5g of cocaine, 44.16g of MDMA, $24,000 cash and eight vials of steroids and testosterone.

The man was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station where he was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug (greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity), and four counts of possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance, and recklessly deal with proceeds of crime (greater than $5000).

The driver was also issued an infringement notice exceed speed limit – over 45 km/h and his licence suspended.

He was refused bail and appear in Bail Division Court on Saturday 4 July 2026, where he was formally refused bail to appear in Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 22 July 2026.
