What is a leader and what does it mean taking on a leadership position.

We are very fortunate to have such a wealth and depth of people taking on leadership roles in our community serving the many different organisations.

The main reason people give when asking why they are doing it is, that they are doing it for our community, or for the young people, enriching peoples’ lives.

Taking on a leadership role doesn’t necessarily come naturally. It is a skill that can be developed or acquired.

Leadership requires a person to prepare themselves for the demands of a particular leadership role. It also requires a person to be able to accept criticism and also be able to accept change.

Leadership often also requires a person to institute and bring about change.

Effective leadership is established by individuals taking on a role of responsibility, giving guidance and insights to a particular group.

Accepting that a specific knowledge base is required. Much is demanded and expected of people in leadership positions.

I believe that we should do more to recognise and show our appreciation for the endeavours of these unsung heroes in our community, giving so selflessly for the greater good of the community.

We are indeed very fortunate to have so many excellent leaders in leadership roles in our community.
