$3 million grant for new pool at Wadeye

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is partnering with the West Daly Regional Council to overhaul the Wadeye Swimming Pool, through the injection of a $3 million grant.

The pool was identified as a key strategic priority in improving social outcomes and the health and wellbeing of the Wadeye community.

Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Eva Lawler and Member for Daly Dheran Young travelled to the community last week to announce the finalisation of the funding agreement with the West Daly Regional Council and announce next steps.

The council will deliver the project with support from The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics and the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet.

Construction is expected to commence 2023 dry season.

Quotes from the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Eva Lawler:

“The Territory Labor Government is pleased to partner with the West Daly Regional Council and invest in a new pool for the residents of Wadeye.

“When Community Cabinet met in the Wadeye in August 2021 it was made very clear by the community how much this facility was needed, and our government made a commitment then to the community of Wadeye.”

Quotes from the Member for Daly, Dheran Young:

“As the local member, I have strongly advocated for the funding for a new pool on behalf of the residents of Wadeye.

“This project will deliver a much-needed facility for the community, and I’m proud we are delivering this funding to make it a reality.”
