43 Million Serves Of Fresh Food For Families In Need

VIC Premier

Victorian families are being hit hard by rising prices at the supermarket.

More families than ever are accessing food relief and support.

That’s why Labor is taking action – with more funding for FoodBank’s GROW program and a new warehouse.

Minister Grigorovitch officially opened FoodBank Victoria’s brand-new Altona warehouse and announced $3 million for their innovative GROW program.

The GROW program redirects up to 4,000 tonnes of surplus produce direct from farms to families in need.

Over three years it will deliver around 43 million serves of seasonal fruit and vegetables through the charity partner network.

The new Altona warehouse will more than double FoodBank’s storage capacity.

That means more quality produce from farmers, growers and producers that might otherwise end up in landfill.

This builds on Labor’s funding of more than $3.3 million every year for FoodBank Victoria, delivering more than 3.5 million kilograms of Victorian-grown produce.

It also builds on our $900,000 emergency support package for FoodBank in April.

Labor has delivered more than $85 million to strengthen the food relief system and get more food to families.

Only Labor has new solutions to make life easier and more affordable.

As stated by Minister for Carers and Volunteers Luba Grigorovitch

“We’re building a smarter, more sustainable food relief system – one that backs local farmers and gets healthy food to families in need.”

As stated by Minister for the Environment Enver Erdogan

“Farmers work hard and this program will help reduce the burden of landfill fees by diverting more surplus produce to food relief.”

As stated by FoodBank Victoria CEO Dave McNamara

“With the Victorian Government’s support, Foodbank’s GROW Program will strengthen the connection between Victorian farmers and the community food relief system and help more Victorians in need.”
