600 Public Building Maintenance Program projects delivered

Michael Ferguson,Treasurer

During the height of the pandemic as part of our COVID-19 support package we established the Public Building Maintenance Program.

We turbocharged this program from $50 million to $70 million to help a range of industries get to the other side of the pandemic.

The Government ensured that the expenditure was allocated across the State to enable all regions to benefit from the employment and improved infrastructure that this Program supported.

Almost 600 Public Building Maintenance Program projects have been completed under the Program.

The Public Building Maintenance Program has spent funds in all regions across the State including $14.5 million for 157 projects in the North; $8.1 million for 126 projects in the North West; $24.4 million for 283 projects in the South; and $23.1 million for 32 additional projects statewide.

The program included the refurbishment and renovation of classrooms and school grounds; upgrades to hospitals, health centres and ambulance stations; the maintenance of walking huts, bathrooms, and other public amenities in Tasmania’s national parks and reserves; heritage works on several of Tasmania’s historic public assets; and repairs to jetties.

These are projects that have benefitted all regions of Tasmania and assisted a wide range of trades during the worst of the pandemic when businesses were suffering.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is supporting local businesses to create jobs and stimulate the economy to deliver growth.
