The Cook Labor Government is supporting Western Australian families to get to Rottnest Island this weekend for the Little Quokka’s Big Birthday Weekend with a program of free activities celebrating the island’s most famous residents.
Across 12 and 13 September, same-day return island admission fees will be waived for children, and kids will also travel free in partnership with ferry companies.
Across the weekend, families can learn more about the island’s quokkas and other island wildlife, get creative with nature-inspired and sustainable activities, and enjoy a full program of live entertainment.
Around the Settlement, Thomson Bay, children can build native bee hotels from recycled and natural materials, create maps of Wadjemup from found objects, contribute to a collaborative 3D quokka sculpture and explore nature through sensory play.

“Wadjemup/Rottnest Island is a beautiful place at this time of year, and the iconic quokkas joeys abound across the island.
“The return of Quokka’s Big Birthday Weekend celebrates the arrival of quokka joeys with two days of wildlife encounters, outdoor activities, live entertainment and hands-on fun.
“I’d encourage families to get along to the Quokka birthday celebrations, and this is made easier through free same-daytravel and island admission for kids.”
