A Major Upgrade For A Hoppers Crossing Hub

Wyndham City is redeveloping The Grange Community Centre and two adjoining sports fields in Hoppers Crossing.

These major projects, with a total budget of $3.75 million, will deliver three new rooms at the community centre, accessible change rooms in the soccer pavilion, sports lights at field 1 and a new playing surface for field 2.

These Wyndham City projects were supported by the Victorian Government through $1.65 million in grants.

Wyndham City Mayor and Family Friendly City portfolio holder Cr Mia Shaw said the three new rooms would enable The Grange to expand its services.

“Since 1993, this much-loved community centre has been a place for people to connect with their neighbours and learn new skills,” Cr Shaw said.

“The centre offers everything from childcare services to seniors’ activities and educational workshops teaching people valuable life skills.”

“We’re making the centre bigger and better, to provide even more programs that will help Wyndham residents thrive.”

“In addition, the new rooms will not only be used to deliver services but can be booked for meetings and activities by any group within the Wyndham community.”

Sports Development portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said the sports field upgrades would encourage healthy lifestyles and allow the Hoppers Crossing Soccer Club to flourish.

“The two upgraded sports fields will be a gamechanger for Hoppers’ soccer fanatics,” Cr Maynard said.

“The new sports lights on field 1 will enable matches to be played there at night, while the resurfacing of field 2 will mean this area can be used once more for training and matches.”

“In addition, both fields can be used by the wider community to exercise and stay active all year round.”

Construction for The Grange Community Centre is now underway and is expected to be completed in September 2020.

The sports field works are scheduled from November 2019 until May 2020.
