A message from National Careers Ambassador: National Careers Week 2020

National Careers Week, an initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia, is an opportunity to celebrate careers, career development and career development practitioners and to promote the economic, social and personal benefits of career development.

National Careers Week, an initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia, is an opportunity to celebrate careers, career development and career development practitioners and to promote the economic, social and personal benefits of career development.

And while National Careers Week will be celebrated a little differently in 2020, there are a range of fantastic virtual events being hosted across the country, putting a spotlight on how a career is more than just a job.

National Careers Ambassador, Scott Cam, knows firsthand how an apprenticeship can lead to a rewarding career path.

In welcoming Australians to National Careers Week 2020, held from 18-24 May, the Ambassador encouraged everyone to consider the many career pathways they can take – no matter what stage they are at – particularly those through vocational education and training

“Something that is really important – and highlighted by challenges like COVID-19 – is to understand the need to reskill, and to upskill, throughout your life,” the Ambassador said.

“Think of it as having all the right tools for the job, regardless of where your career might take you.”

“Vocational education and training is a great way to keep up with the future of work, because its courses are driven by what employers need.”

“So much training has moved online. You can search around 2000 online offerings on the MySkills website, to get nationally accredited training.”

“And there’s heaps of great events this National Careers Week. Just head to nationalcareersweek.com.au to check out what’s happening across the country.”

Participate in a virtual event, and start a conversation – with your family, friends, or a career practitioner – about what your future could look like, and consider how VET can take you there.
