A smooth transition for Bridgewater-Gagebrook primary healthcare

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health

The Rockliff Liberal Government continues to go above and beyond in its delivery of healthcare to Tasmanians, with the new Jordan River Health general practice seeing its first patients in Bridgewater today, securing the continuity of general practice services for the Bridgewater-Gagebrook community.

“This is a positive outcome for the Bridgewater community,” said Health Minister Guy Barnett.

“While primary healthcare is a responsibility of the federal government, we have worked hard behind the scenes to help secure this agreement because we understand that having access to general practitioners is crucial for the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians.

“We know that increased demand on our emergency departments is often due to difficulty in accessing timely and affordable primary health care.

“I would like to thank Dr Mark Baldock from Jordan River Health and also IPN for ensuring a smooth transition.”

About 40 per cent of presentations to the emergency departments are semi-urgent or non-urgent, often more appropriately treated by a GP or other primary health services.

The Rockliff Liberal Government continues to advocate for enhanced primary healthcare services in the region and is lobbying the federal government for support for additional opening hours.
