ABARES Regional Outlook conference coming to Toowoomba

Department of Agriculture and Water Resources

Delegates to the ABARES Toowoomba Regional Outlook conference on 27 July will hear from local farming businesses about their experiences of innovation and adaption for sustainable growth.

ABARES Assistant Secretary, Agricultural Forecasting and Trade, Kurt Hockey said the panel discussion on Adopting and adapting for sustainable growth was generating considerable interest.

“We have farm businesses and researchers coming together to share their experiences and ideas on how agriculture can adapt to the challenges it is facing and position itself for success,” Mr Hockey said.

“If you want to be part of the conversation, I’m encouraging people to register online – it’s a free conference but places are limited.

“I’ll be discussing the big picture issues affecting farmers in southern Queensland while my colleague Jonathan Wong will be taking a closer look at the region’s commodities and where trends are heading.

“We’ve had recent high commodity prices for grains, but we’re also aware of the challenges from the recent wet weather and rising input costs.”

ABARES’ Regional Outlook conferences are an essential part of sharing commodity forecasts and research results, and hearing from local delegates about key regional agricultural issues.

Conference sessions will examine agriculture’s contribution to Australia’s prosperity, driving value in agriculture, and the outlook for the sector and key commodities.
