ACT Budget 2025-26: Delivering For Gungahlin

The 2025-26 ACT Budget will deliver new investments across Gungahlin to support the region’s growing population and ensure local families have access to the services and facilities they need, close to home.

Gungahlin is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and this Budget continues the ACT Government’s investment in the town centre and surrounding suburbs, supporting infrastructure, play spaces, active travel, sports facilities and emergency services.

This includes an investment in early works to prepare the Casey precinct for the development of a new Health Centre and future infrastructure, such as potential community facilities and a new Emergency Services Station.

2025-26 Budget initiatives in Gungahlin include:

Upgraded Community Playgrounds

  • A new playground at the local shops in Amaroo.

Revitalised Local Shops

  • Upgrades at the Palmerston group centre shops, enhancing accessibility, safety and public amenity.

Investing in Sport and Recreation

  • New cricket nets will be installed at Bonner Oval
  • The Gungahlin Enclosed Oval (Crinigan Circle) and Harrison Oval will benefit from female-friendly changeroom upgrades, part of Territory-wide investment in inclusive sports facilities.

Safer Streets

  • A new walking and cycling path along Victoria Street in Hall.

Treasurer Chris Steel said the ACT Budget continues Labor’s commitment to invest in fast-growing areas like Gungahlin.

“This is a Budget that reflects the needs of a growing Gungahlin, supporting new infrastructure while also investing in community facilities, local shops and play spaces that improve day-to-day life for residents,” Minister Steel said.

Minister for Skills, Training and Industrial Relations Michael Pettersson welcomed the investments in community amenities and sports facilities.

“Palmerston shops are at the heart of the local community, and this upgrade will make them safer, more accessible and more enjoyable for locals,” Minister Pettersson said.

“We’re also backing our sporting communities, with new cricket nets in Bonner and changeroom upgrades at key ovals, helping ensure everyone can participate and feel welcome.”

Minister for Disability, Carers and Community Services Suzanne Orr emphasised the long-term planning underway to support Gungahlin’s future.

“The early works in Casey will pave the way for critical infrastructure that Gungahlin will rely on as it continues to grow,” Minister Orr said.

“We’re also investing in better playgrounds and active travel routes to ensure the region remains a great place to raise a family and stay connected.

“This builds on the work we’ve already delivered in the district, like the Casey Community Recreational Park, Franklin Dog Park, and the under-construction Gungahlin Community Centre, important local projects that are already enhancing our community.”
