Active youth program to make splash this summer

This summer, Dubbo Regional Council’s (DRC) Aquatic Centres in Dubbo and Wellington have partnered with the NSW Office of Sport in a new youth pilot program during Term 1, 2022. The Active Pools Youth Program is aimed at keeping 12-16 year olds active over summer.

Clare Fisher, Manager of the Aquatic Centres said she is looking forward to participating in the program. ” This program is very exciting, by providing young people an opportunity to participate in a range of free land and water-based activities will promote an active lifestyle, increase their social interactions with youth of the same age while supporting our local facilities.

“Each participant will receive a free 3 month pool pass, and 16 sessions of structured fun and games at their local pool,” said Ms Fisher.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor, Councillor Mathew Dickerson said he is pleased Council could partner with the Office of Sport to deliver such a rewarding program. “This program has so many benefits to the individuals who take part and for the centres themselves. It provides the opportunity for youth who may not normally have access to our pools for a variety of reasons. I hope this pilot program is a huge success and we can maintain this partnership for future years for the benefit of our youth,” said Councillor Dickerson.

Active Youth Program, Dubbo and Wellington:

  • 30 limited places are available at each location
  • Open to 12–16 year olds
  • Includes 8 weeks of supervised, structured activities
  • Starts Term 1 2022
  • 1 hour sessions twice a week

Registrations for the program are now open and can be completed via Council’s dedicated webpage Active Pools Youth Program

While the 2022 pilot is free for all participants, the goal is to continue running the program each year with participants paying via their Active Kids Vouchers.
