ACTU targets job plan ads in regional Australia

The peak body for working people in Australia is running television ads across regional Queensland and Tasmania foreshadowing a comprehensive jobs plan that will be released next week.

The ads will run in Rockhampton, Cairns, Townsville, and Tasmania, and feature ACTU President Michele O’Neil outlining the union movement’s proposals to rebuild our economy in the wake of COVID-19 by delivering secure, permanent jobs to millions of Australians.

The jobs plan, to be released in full next week, will focus on getting unemployed and underemployed Australians back into secure, permanent jobs after the pandemic.

As noted by ACTU President Michele O’Neil

“Our message to Australians in regional Queensland and Tasmania is this: The Morrison government needs to step up and deliver a comprehensive plan to protect and create jobs. The Australian union movement has a comprehensive plan for jobs that will rebuild our economy in the aftermath of the pandemic and the government are welcome to use it as a starting point.

“Unemployment and underemployment at are record highs. Young people and women have been disproportionately affected. And yet the Morrison government still has not outlined a plan for how he will get people back into secure, permanent jobs.

“If the Commonwealth government won’t provide leadership on this, Australian unions will.”
