ACU looking to expand its arts offering in Ballarat

Australian Catholic University

Australian Catholic University (ACU) is planning to expand its presence in Ballarat, developing an arts offering that serves the local community.

The proposed program – depending on interest and subject to university approval processes– would give students in regional Victoria an opportunity to pursue studies across the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education and Arts, Professor Mary Ryan, said the university was enthusiastic about developing a strong presence in Ballarat for arts.

“We are looking to develop a program that will serve the local community.

“We are a national university and have the resources to establish a world-class offering that consolidates our strong ties in Ballarat.

“We know our community wants this and we want to work with the community to deliver it.”

ACU Dean of Arts Professor Joy Damousi said it was important to ensure students across the country had access to an arts and humanities education.

“Insights and perspectives from the arts, humanities and social sciences are essential in tackling our most pressing contemporary issues and are skills that employers are looking for.

“The arts and humanities are also essential for building vibrant communities – it’s so important that students in our regions have the option to pursue an arts education.”
