ADF personnel return home in time for Christmas

Around 250 Australian Defence Force (ADF) members from Task Group Taji Rotation 9 have returned home in time for Christmas following a successful deployment to Iraq.

The group, which is comprised of troops from 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment and the wider 7th Brigade as well as the New Zealand Defence Force, touched down in Brisbane this morning following their six-month deployment.

Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC acknowledged the contribution the Task Group had made during their deployment.

“Christmas is a time to reflect on the significant contribution our ADF personnel have made throughout the year on operations in support of regional and global stability and security,” Minister Reynolds said.

“I thank the men and women of Task Group Taji rotation 9 for their service and the personal sacrifices they have made while being away from family and friends for extended periods of time.

“I also acknowledge the sacrifices made by their families and friends who have supported them throughout their deployment and have made their service possible.”

Nearly 2,000 ADF and Defence civilian personnel serving on 17 active operations and activities overseas will celebrate Christmas away from their families and friends this year.

“For many troops, this year will be their first Christmas away from their loved ones, while others have endured the tyranny of distance on previous deployments,” Minister Reynolds said.

“On behalf of the Government and our entire nation, thank you for your service.”
