The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has extended the temporary closure of beach-vehicle driving at Samurai Beach and Worimi Conservation Land’s (WCL) beachfront due to severe weather and sea conditions predicted for this weekend.
Samurai Beach and the Worimi beachfront will be closed to vehicles until further notice.
NPWS Area Manager Andrew Bond said the beaches were due to reopen to the public this week in line with state government easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
“We understand this extension of the closure is disappointing however visitor safety is the priority,” said Mr Bond.
“Closure signs will be installed at entrances to the beaches and we will continue to monitor the weather conditions to determine when the beaches can safely be reopened for vehicles,” said Mr Bond.
Samurai Beach and Worimi remain open to the public to access on foot. Visitors are reminded to observe social distancing while using the beach and facilities.
