Agreement on new Magic Millions yearling sale venue welcomed

Jane Howlett,Minister for Racing

The announcement today by Tasbreeders of Quercus Park as the new venue for the 2021 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale is great news for the racing industry.

The Tasmanian Yearling Sale has been going from strength to strength in recent years, particularly since the introduction of the Tasmanian Government’s assistance through the new Tasbred bonus scheme.

Today’s announcement will ensure Tasmanian thoroughbred breeders will continue to have a quality venue to sell their yearlings.

I thank Rural Youth Tasmania for its cooperation in making Quercus Park available as well as Tasbreeders and Magic Millions for undertaking the work to find and secure this new site.

In 2020, Tasmanian yearlings at the Magic Millions sale grossed $3.36 million. This has grown 37% since 2015, when the sale grossed $1.54 million.

Star graduates of the Tasmanian sale have included Group 1 stars Mystic Journey and Palentino, cult hero The Cleaner as well as last season’s star filly Still A Star.

With the Tasbonus scheme continuing to grow in value and a 6% increase in stakes announced, there has never been a better opportunity to buy a future star at the sale.
