Motorists are being encouraged to avoid roads around Nowingi Place this weekend, with the area expected to be highly congested as the SummerSalt Music Festival rolls in to town.

An estimated 5,000 people are expected to descend on Mildura’s riverfront performance venue for the highly-anticipated concert this Saturday, with Mildura Rural City Council Mayor Cr Liam Wood saying that getting everyone to and from the concert safely and efficiently was critical.

“There will be a number of changes to traffic and road closures in place specifically to allow the SummerSalt concert to happen, and residents and motorists need to be aware of this,” he said.

Parking will be limited along Hugh King Drive and surrounding areas with concert-goers encouraged to take advantage of city parking before accessing Nowingi Place via the Langtree Connection.

“We expect a lot of people will be walking to the concert from the CBD and similarly, many will want to head to town to enjoy our restaurants and entertainment after the SummerSalt Music Festival is over,” Cr Wood said.

“Motorists should also note Magnolia and Lemon Avenues between Seventh Street and Nowingi Place will be closed to traffic from 7am to 11pm.

As well as formal road closures, Cr Wood said a reduced speed limit of 40km/h would be in place along Seventh Street for the duration of the event due to the anticipated high pedestrian traffic.

All road closures and changed traffic conditions will be clearly marked with signage. Traffic management teams will be on site to direct motorists and pedestrians.

A significant police presence will also be in place to ensure the delivery of a safe event.

Cr Wood also reminded people attending the SummerSalt Music Festival that parking in the area will be limited, encouraging them to avoid driving to the concert if possible.

“Get someone to drop you off and pick you up, car pool and park somewhere in town and walk to the Nowingi Place,” he said.
