Allens launches First Nations Engagement Plan

Allens has launched its First Nations Engagement Plan, continuing the firm’s long-standing commitment to supporting reconciliation.

In developing the Plan, Allens identified three key pathways that best leverage the skillsets of the firm and its people – pathways to justice; pathways to understanding; and pathways to economic engagement.

‘Allens and the legal profession as a whole have a profound obligation and opportunity to contribute to reconciliation. Our First Nations Engagement Plan outlines how we will continue to do so,’ said Managing Partner Richard Spurio.

‘We look forward to continuing to work with our people, clients and communities to amplify the voices of First Nations people and progress towards reconciliation,’ said Chair Fiona Crosbie.

The three pathways of Allens’ Plan

1. Pathways to justice

Providing pro bono support for First Nations organisations, communities and causes and increasing opportunities for our staff to engage with this work as a way to strengthen our relationships with Traditional Owners of the lands on which we work.

2. Pathways to economic engagement

Contributing to the education, employment and mentoring of First Nations students, and maintaining our commitment to supporting First Nations-owned businesses.

3. Pathways to understanding

Embedding cultural safety in our workplaces and increasing the rigour around our Reconciliation Committees to further engage our staff.

Under each of the pathways, Allens has set out a number of commitments to be progressed between now and 2026.
