Altona Meadows projects coming to life

It’s so rewarding to see big projects come to life.

There has been a lot of work going on in Altona Meadows, and I’m so excited to see it all moving ahead.

These are projects that will make our neighbourhoods better and more connected communities. Most importantly, they’re projects that our residents have had a big say in.

Firstly, Council recently endorsed the place guide for Better Places Seabrook and Altona Meadows.

Better Places is all about looking at our suburbs as a whole and identifying the projects that will make them more efficient and effective places to live.

There are some great ideas in the guide which aim to make Seabrook and Altona Meadows cleaner, greener and safer, create more of a village lifestyle and improve our cycling, walking and transport networks.

It will also see excellent existing projects completed, and I’m thrilled to be able to provide an update on two of them.

The first is that the refurbished Altona Meadows Library is open again. I think it looks great and is going to be an incredible asset for our community.

There’s a new children’s area, new technology spaces, a media room and a variety of new technologies available for the community to use.

It’s not just a library, it’s the first of our Centres of Excellence. Each Centre of Excellence will have a theme and the new-look Altona Meadows Library has a focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).

I’m so proud that we have this facility in Altona Meadows. It’s going to allow our community to engage with great new technologies and it’s going to be a great destination for people from all over Hobsons Bay.

I’m also excited to see work begin on the southern open space of Bruce Comben Reserve. This project is going to transform this area with a new playground, tennis courts, multipurpose court, walking and cycling network, dog off-lead zone and much more.

Finally, I wanted to mention Monster Mayhem, which is coming up at AB Shaw Reserve in Altona Meadows on Saturday 28 October.

Council is a proud supporter of this event. It’s such a fun afternoon with rides, food and entertainment to celebrate Halloween and I hope to see you there.
