Police Arrest Driver After Failing To Stop At Loxton

A man has been charged with serious offences after allegedly failing to stop for police in the Riverland.

Just before 8.45am on Sunday 1 November, police received reports of a white Ford Falcon, with no registration plates attached, performing burnouts on Bookpurnong Road at Loxton North.

When patrols attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly failed to stop and continued driving through the Loxton district.

Police monitored the vehicle from a distance as it travelled through the Loxton, Bookpurnong, Pike River and Lyrup areas. Various attempts were made to deploy road spikes, however, the driver avoided them.

At 9.40am, while travelling on Stanitzki Road, the driver allegedly drove the Ford towards three police officers who were attempting to deploy road spikes. The officers took evasive action and were not physically injured.

About 30 minutes later, the vehicle stopped on Bookpurnong Road and the driver was arrested without incident.

The 22-year-old Loxton man was charged with failing to stop for police, three counts of aggravated endangering life, misuse of a motor vehicle, driving without due care and registration offences.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Berri Magistrates Court on Monday 2 November.

The Ford Falcon was impounded for 28 days.
