Amplify Creative Hub returns to Shepparton Library on Saturday 22 August, giving young people across Greater Shepparton the chance to build music and recording skills through free workshops and creative activities.
Open to young people aged 12 to 25, the free youth-led sessions will run between 12pm and 4pm and focus on music, with hands-on workshops, relaxed creative activities and a CD and vinyl swap. Free pizza will also be available.
Delivered through Council’s Amplify Youth Committee, with support from Goulburn Valley Libraries and the Victorian Government, Amplify Creative Hub gives young people a safe and welcoming place to connect, learn new skills and explore creative career pathways.
The August program will include:
- 12.15pm to 1.15pm: Try freestyle rap
Led by Flash Poetry Nico, this beginner-friendly workshop will help participants explore rhyme, rhythm, language and improvisation in a fun and supportive setting.
- 1.30pm to 3.30pm: Record your music
This hands-on workshop will take participants through the recording process, from developing a song idea to recording up to the first chorus. Attendees will learn about home recording, basic recording techniques and mixing.
- Available throughout the session: CD and vinyl swap
Young people can bring along pre-loved CDs or vinyl records to exchange with others, discover different artists and share their favourite music.
- Available throughout the session: DIY crafts, board games and puzzles
Participants can also drop in for relaxed activities, including crafts, board games and puzzles.
Participants taking part in the music recording workshop are encouraged to bring their own instrument, such as a guitar, bass or keyboard, and have some basic playing skills.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali said the August session provides an avenue for young people to explore their creativity in a supportive environment.
“Amplify Creative Hub gives young people a place to try new things, build confidence and connect with others who share their interests,” he said.
“The August session is a great opportunity for young people who love music, performance or songwriting to come along, learn new skills and be part of a welcoming creative space.”
Council’s Director Healthy Communities and Liveability, Briana Baass, said the program has continued to support young people to explore creative interests and pathways.
“Each Amplify Creative Hub session is shaped around a different creative theme, giving young people practical opportunities to learn, collaborate and express themselves,” she said.
“This month’s music program offers a mix of hands-on workshops and relaxed activities, making it easy for young people to get involved at their own pace.”
Amplify Creative Hub will continue monthly until November, with future sessions set to explore activities including music, photography, digital arts, DJing, music production, multimedia and songwriting.
No experience is needed and all young people aged 12 to 25 are welcome to attend.
