Today, the Rockhampton Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) participated in Exercise Para Para, a critical disaster management exercise designed to strengthen the preparedness and coordination of the LDMG in response to evolving disaster events.

Deputy Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group Councillor Drew Wickerson said these types of exercises are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

“Exercise Para Para was a hypothetical discussion exercise, focusing on a heatwave and biosecurity event, that aimed to review the disaster management arrangements of the Rockhampton Local Disaster Management Group and a number of supporting agencies during a disaster event,” Cr Wickerson said.

“The Exercise Facilitator guided participants through the scenario, inviting them to actively engage in discussions responding to key questions.

“The primary goal today was to foster a collaborative and cooperative multi-agency response environment, emphasising effective management, coordination, collaboration, and communication among various agencies.

“These types of exercises play a pivotal role in enhancing the capacity of the LDMG, ensuring that they are well-prepared to respond to real-life emergencies.

“By simulating disaster situations, participants can identify areas of improvement, assess the effectiveness of current procedures, and fine-tune their response strategies.

“Council remains committed to the safety and security of its residents and today’s exercise was a testament to our dedication to disaster preparedness and response, ensuring that our community remains resilient in the face of adversity.”
