Campaspe Shire Council is delighted to be in the running for two gongs at the 2026 Victorian Tourism Awards, having been named a finalist in the Local Government Award for Tourism category, and also in the Festivals and Events category for the Wonderland on the Murray sand sculpture trail which Council delivered from December 2025 to March this year in partnership with Murray River Council and Campaspe Port Enterprise.

Campaspe Shire Deputy Mayor Cr Tony Marwood said the announcement from the Victorian Tourism Industry Council came on the heels of a stellar 12 months for tourism in the shire.

“It has been an exceptionally strong year for tourism in Campaspe, having been named Victoria’s Top Tourism Town earlier this year, followed by taking out third place in the national Top Tourism Town awards.”

Cr Marwood said Council now being named a finalist in two categories at the Victorian Tourism Awards was an extra acknowledgement of the collective efforts that helped make the region a sought-after destination for tourists.

“Council’s recognition as a finalist in the Local Government Award for Tourism is a reflection of its strong focus on supporting the visitor economy through strategic tourism initiatives, destination marketing, event development and partnerships that showcase the unique attractions and experiences of Campaspe Shire, while Council’s finalist position in the Festivals and Events category is testament to the success of the three-month Wonderland on the Murray event which attracted an estimated 40,000 visitors and generated more than $6.8 million in economic benefit for the Echuca Moama region.

“We are proud of what has been achieved and remain committed to supporting a vibrant and thriving tourism industry that benefits our communities and showcases everything our region has to offer,” Cr Marwood said.

“But this recognition also belongs to the many local tourism operators, businesses, community groups, volunteers and partners who work alongside Council to create memorable experiences for visitors and strengthen our local economy.”

Other local businesses that are finalists in their respective categories include Bar Lee, My Coffee Cart, and Wisps of Wool Retreat.

The winners of the 2026 Victorian Tourism Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Melbourne on Thursday, 26 November.
