Appeal after carjacking in Tamworth

Police are appealing for public assistance to identify a man after reports of an attempted carjacking in the Tamworth early this morning.

About 2.15am (Thursday 27 January 2022), a 49-year-old woman was sitting inside her vehicle in a driveway of a residence on Ridge Street, when a man carrying knife attempted to open the driver’s side door.

As the woman attempted to reverse out of the driveway, the man has run after her vehicle and opened the passenger side door. Before he could enter, she drove off, alerting police.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District are now appealing for public assistance to identify a man believed to be able to assist inquiries.

The man is described as Caucasian, in his early 20s, 170cm tall, thin build, wearing a black hoodie with white motif on chest, a white face mask and dark blue denim jeans.

Inquiries continue.
