Appeal after large rock thrown at train causing damage in Oatley

Police are appealing for public assistance after a large rock was thrown at a train, causing extensive damage and narrowly missing a passenger, in Oatley last week.

About 3.45pm last Thursday (30 September 2021), three people were seen to throw a large sandstone rock, approximately the size of a basketball, at a train running between Oatley Bridge and Oatley Railway Station.

The rock caused extensive damage to a window – breaking both the glass and plastic safety panelling – and narrowly missed a female passenger seated in the front train carriage.

Officers from the Police Transport and Public Safety Command were notified of the incident and commenced an investigation into the incident.

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw three young people in the area, particularly in the vicinity of Como Bridge and Oatley Railway Station to come forward.
