Appeal after man’s death at Griffith, NSW

Police are appealing for public assistance as inquiries continue into the death of a man in Griffith.

About 8.30am on Monday 13 June 2022, police have been told a 79-year-old man was involved in an altercation with another man on Yambil Street at Griffith, before he was allegedly pushed to the ground.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Griffith Base Hospital for treatment; however, was transferred to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for further treatment the following day (Tuesday 14 June 2022).

The man died in hospital on Monday 25 July 2022.

While the man was injured during the alleged altercation, it’s not known if those injuries resulted in the man’s death.

Detectives from Murrumbidgee Police District have established Strike Force Toxteth as they attempt to establish the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the man’s later death.

Those inquiries will also form part of the investigators’ brief for the Coroner.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident on Yambil Street, or the events prior to or after, is urged to contact investigators.

The other man has been identified and is assisting police with the investigation.
