Police are appealing for information following a serious assault in Wollongong last month.
Around 4.20am on Sunday 30 August 2026, emergency services were called to a fast-food restaurant on the corner of Burelli and Corrimal Streets, Wollongong, following reports of an assault in the carpark.
NSW Ambulance paramedics responded and treated a 20-year-old man for serious head injuries before taking him to Wollongong Hospital in a critical but stable condition where he remains.
Following the alleged assault, officers attached to Wollongong Police District commenced inquiries, under Strike Force Zantel.
Around 7.45pm on Sunday 30 August 2026, a 20-year-old man attended Wollongong Police Station and was arrested and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 3 on Monday 1 September where he granted conditional bail to appear on Wednesday 16 September 2026.
As investigations continue, police have released CCTV of people who were in the vicinity at the time of the alleged assault who they believe could assist with inquiries.
