Police are appealing for information following a suspicious fire at a storefront in Wellington overnight.
About 3am today (Tuesday 4 August 2026), an off-duty police officer attached to Orana Mid Western Police District observed a building fire at a storefront on Lee Street, Wellington.
Police immediately notified Fire and Rescue NSW, who attended a short time later.
A resident of the premises – a woman in her 20s – who was asleep at the time, woke and extinguished the flames, which had damaged the store’s front door and an area of the floor.
The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Wellington Hospital for treatment of minor smoke inhalation.
A crime scene was established.
As investigations continue, police would like to speak with a man who they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.
He is described as wearing full black clothing, a black backpack, a face covering and helmet, and was last seen riding a blue and white dirtbike at the location before fleeing south onto Lee Street and Warne Street.
