Appeal to identify owner of van after Lidcombe crash, NSW

Police are trying to identify the owner of a van involved in a crash in Lidcombe overnight.

Officers from Auburn Police Area Command were called to Bachell Avenue, near Church Street intersection, following a crash involving two vans about 11:30pm (Friday 27 December 2019).

Police have been told when the 34-year-old driver of the first van got out to exchange details with the other driver, his passenger in the first van moved into the driver’s seat and drove away.

The driver of the first van has told police he did not know who the passenger was as he only met him during the night and it was the passenger’s vehicle he was driving.

The Berala man was taken to Auburn Hospital where he’s being treated for cuts to his legs as well as undergoing mandatory testing.

Police are now attempting to contact the van owner.

The driver of the second van, a 38-year-old man from Regents Park, returned a negative breath test at the scene.

Police are appealing for public assistance to identify the owner of the first van, and the van which is described only as being black, make and model unknown.
