Sarah Courtney,

Minister for Children and Youth,

The Premier’s Fund for Children and Young People has today opened for applications, fulfilling a key action from Tasmania’s first ever comprehensive, long-term, whole of government Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy.

The fund forms part of our $100 million, four-year investment to deliver the strategy that maps the blueprint to deliver the services and supports that children, young people and their families need, so they, and our State, can thrive into the future.

The Fund will create more opportunities for recreational and social opportunities for children and young people, in the areas where they live.

This could include greater opportunities for after school sports, skate parks, or delivering activities for kids to have fun, such as youth hubs or hobby clubs.

The fund is a direct outcome from feedback received from children and young people during the consultation period for the strategy, and we are very pleased to deliver it on behalf of everyone who engaged with us and made their voices heard.

Successful applicants will be required to link their proposals to a community need identified by children and young people, with ongoing consultation around planning and design of infrastructure or social activities.

The $500,000 program opens from today, 27 November 2021, and closes on 11 February 2022, with grants of up to $50,000 available for successful applicants.
