  • Applications now open for tourism industry support packages
  • The programs will support tourism businesses to offset deposit refunds and some costs incurred due to the delay in the border reopening
  • Supported by the State Government through Tourism WA
  • Applications are now open for two of the McGowan Government’s tourism industry support packages.

Tourism businesses can now apply for the $15 million WA Tourism Deposit Refund Program and the $20 million WA Tourism Support Program.

The funds, announced by the Premier as part of the State Government’s $77 million Safe Transition Industry Support Package, will help eligible tourism businesses in Western Australia offset some of the financial impact incurred by the delayed border reopening.

The $15 million WA Tourism Deposit Refund Program is for eligible businesses that have refunded deposits on cancelled interstate or international bookings. Businesses may be eligible for funding to cover their total deposit refunds, up to $50,000.

The $20 million WA Tourism Support Program is to offset expenses incurred by tourism businesses in preparation for the initially scheduled full border opening. Sole traders may be eligible for a one-off payment of $10,000 under this program, or $20,000 for employing businesses.

In order to be eligible, businesses will need to have an active and valid ABN and have a business premise in Western Australia. Businesses will need to be an active member of the tourism industry and show they have sustained a significant reduction in turnover over the past two years.

Applications will open shortly for the Government’s third program, a $3 million WA Travel Agents Support Fund for eligible registered travel agents.

Home-based travel agents can apply for up to $10,000 while eligible brick-and-mortar businesses can secure a one-off $20,000 payment through the fund.

As stated by Tourism Minister Roger Cook:

“This set of tourism funding initiatives are part of the State Government’s $77 million Safe Transition Industry Support Package, which will help the State’s world-class tourism sector adapt to WA’s new border reopening date of March 3.

“I encourage tourism businesses to apply if they are eligible for either program.

“We will continue to work closely with the sector as we take positive steps towards the border opening, and welcoming international and interstate visitors back to Western Australia.”
